Saturday’s home opener against the Blue Raiders is going to be
interesting. Middle Tennessee is coming
off its 70-14 romp over Jackson State while the Tide rolled past Wisconsin
35-17 last week.
The oddsmakers have predicted Bama will win its game by five
touchdowns, but hold up a sec. During Nick
Saban’s press conference
on Wednesday, he acknowledged that MTSU’s up-tempo offense will be hard to
defend.
They’ve got one helluva safety in Kevin Byard. The 5-foot-11, 215 lb. safety has 15 career
interceptions to his credit including 4 he returned for touchdowns. Byard is projected to be either a second or
fourth round NFL draft pick.
Coach Saban said of Byard, "He's a
good player, really good player. I think
their players really play hard on defense. He's definitely a playmaker. He's
involved in a lot of plays. And the way their scheme is set up, I think its set
up so the safeties can make a lot of plays, and he's certainly one of their
best players."
Alabama’s back-to-back
national championship quarterback, A. J. McCarron, will be in Tuscaloosa to
watch his little brother Corey play against the Tide and dad Tony McCarron will
be sitting in the Alabama section of Bryant-Denney Stadium wearing a blue shirt
because “family comes first.”
Running back
Derrick Henry will be looking to put together another highlight reel against
MTSU and since Alabama is ranked No.2 in the AP Top 25, I’ll just go Deep-Couch
City and revel in the glory of Bama’s quest to bring home No. 16.
“If you want
to walk the heavenly streets of gold, you gotta know the password, “Roll, Tide,
Roll!”
